For those who have registered to take the oral exam within the next weeks: Just send me an e-mail (jwa@tf.uni-kiel.de) to suggest a date for the exam that suits you. After checking with my co-examiner I will reply to you.
You may encouter errors in the script, especially in the modules not belonging to the "backbone" (cf. the "Matrix of Modules"), but also in the backbone itself. My recent corrections are not yet included in the PDF version of the script. In any case, if you are in doubt about the correctness of some module, or if you have found an error, tell me about it by e-mail: jwa@tf.uni-kiel.de.
At the end of the semester, only chapters 5–7 have been presented; sub-chapters 6.2 and 7.2 have been omitted. The extra stuff about ab initio band structure calculations, shown at the end of the very last lecture, does not belong to the offical content of this lecture course; it was only presented as an extended answer to a question that came up when we dealt with basic band theory (especially section 2.1.5).
In due time you will find here a short summary of what I have told you about band structure calculations at the end of the very last lecture, including relevant web links to the material I have used. |
All general information will appear here; last update: 06 November 2020.
In the winter term 2020/21, the lecture and the exercises will take place in an online video/chat session using BigBlueButton (follow the link to give it a try on your device, and/or to get an overview of its features).
For the details about the session and the access to it, please have a look at the relevant OLAT course: https://lms.uni-kiel.de/url/RepositoryEntry/3585867781. Tell me (by mail: jwa@tf.uni-kiel.de) if you encounter any difficulties in getting access to this course.
To be able to follow this lecture, basic knowledge on the quantum-mechanical level about solid state physics and light–matter interaction is required.
We will focus on selected parts of this script:
|
||
There is a list of books related to this lecture course, providing both German and English titles (scroll down for the latter ones). This list also includes an online book (in English). Besides the various headlines of the present script, the subjects treated in the exercises may serve as a guideline for what to read in those books. |
The following table contains the question sheets; they will be discussed at the indicated date.
An active participation in the discussions, including some work at the "blackboard" (i.e., its online equivalent), is a required prerequisite for taking the oral exam.
Please tell me (jwa@tf.uni-kiel.de) if you encounter technical difficulties with the PDF files, or if you prefer a different file type (as, e.g., XPS or TIFF).
