Here is a first example illustrating in animated fashion the effects of lattices rotating on top of each other - an important concept in grain boundary theory. Link to the newest version of this page without insets |
The animation rotates a hexagonal lattice on top of an identical one. For certain angles some lattice points coincide: this is shown for a few seconds.
Due to small aberrations in the drawings, the coincidence is not perfect, but close enough to show the development of a "Coincidence Site Lattice"
A lot more could be in this context by animations. But, all things considered, maybe it would be more useful to implement a JAVA applet for all possible situations than to produce many individual animations? |
