The final result of a calculation performed on a computer may be erroneous due to various reasons:
systematic errors in the approach used, e.g. a wrong mathematical modelling
systematic errors in the program code (“bugs”)
errors contained in input data
errors due to floating-point arithmetic
Even if the first three were excluded by careful work, the latter cannot be avoided.
